When it comes to ingredients that pair well with peanut butter, we’re of the opinion that marshmallow is underrated. Chocolate, jelly, and even banana tend to take center stage, while the fluffy stuff gets overlooked as something only for sandwiches. The truth is, however, that the sweet creaminess of marshmallow works perfectly with PB in a much wider variety of desserts and treats. Here are a few of our favorite recipes.

Fluffernutter Cookies

The only thing better than warm peanut butter cookies fresh from the oven are peanut butter cookies topped with a healthy dollop of marshmallow Fluff. Soft and chewy with just the right amount of sweetness, this recipe by Browned Butter Blondie is the perfect treat for almost any occasion. Amp up the nuttiness with some peanut butter chips, or use chocolate as a s’mores-y alternative.

Fluffernutter Cupcakes

Why settle for store bought cupcakes when you can make these bad boys instead? With a moist and fluffy vanilla cake base and a swirl of two kinds of frosting on top, this recipe by Sturbridge Bakery is everything we love about fluffernutter sandwiches, reimagined in dessert-form. Hit the meringue with a blow torch to give them that ooey-gooey toasted marshmallow flavor.

Fluffernutter Bars

If regular peanut butter and marshmallow alone don’t quite feel like enough, this recipe by Mary Ann from The Beach House Kitchen is sure to hit the spot. Starting with a peanut butter cookie-style and Fluff base, she tops it all off with whole Nutter Butter sandwich cookies for a fun and nostalgic twist. You’re going to want to have a tall glass of milk on hand—trust us!

As self-proclaimed professional snackers, there are few things that excite us more than a fresh package of Oreos or some good ol’ Chips Ahoy. That being said, store-bought cookies are often highly processed and full of artificial colors and flavors. Don’t get us wrong, there’s a time and a place for these classic treats, but for more frequent snacking, we prefer to go for less processed options when possible.

Fortunately, there are now plenty of healthier cookie brands available to choose from, and many even offer vegan and gluten-free options. If you love cookies as much as we do, here are a few we suggest adding to your snack cabinet.

Sundays

Oreos have finally met their sugar-free match with these keto-friendly, high-protein chocolate sandwich cookies. They’re sweetened with monk fruit, which means no artificial aftertaste, and because they’re made with almond flour, they’re also naturally gluten-free.

Partake

Food allergy sufferers, rejoice — there’s finally a cookie available free of the top 9 most common food allergens, including peanuts, tree nuts, and soy. They’re also vegan, gluten-free, and non-GMO, but you’d never guess from how great they taste. Partake’s most popular flavor is chocolate chip, though we’re partial to the Birthday Cake variety.

Simple Mills

Remember those little bags of Famous Amos chocolate chip cookies we used to get at birthday parties and in the cafeteria? Simple Mills Crunchy Chocolate Chip Cookies taste just like those, but better. They’re made with almond flour, so they’re safe for those with gluten intolerance and are sweetened with unrefined coconut sugar.

Baking cookies is a great weekend activity and the end product is absolutely delicious. They can be quite high in sugar and saturated fats, however. This recipe for healthy cookies guarantees the same great flavor whilst also being very nutritious!

Ingredients:

  • 2 ripe bananas
  • 1/3 cup of peanut butter
  • 1/4 cup of honey or maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 2 cups of oats
  • 1/2 cup of dark chocolate chips or dried fruit (optional)
  • 1/4 cup of chopped nuts
  • Salt

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with baking paper.
  2. In a large bowl, combine your mashed bananas, peanut butter, honey or maple syrup, vanilla extract, and cinnamon. Mix until smooth and well combined. Add your oats to the wet ingredients, stirring until the mixture forms a consistent cookie dough. If you like, you can fold in dark chocolate chips or dried fruit and chopped nuts for added texture and flavor.
  3. Scoop spoonfuls of the cookie dough onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them evenly. Gently flatten each cookie with the back of a spoon or your fingers, as these cookies won’t spread much during baking. Sprinkle a pinch of salt over the cookies if you want a savory tone to your cookies.
  4. Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes or until the edges turn golden brown. Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to finish cooling.

Ho Ho Ho! Holiday season is totally here, and you may still not have any special Christmas or New Year dessert ideas up your sleeve, which is pretty stressful. But hey, that doesn’t mean you can’t hit Instagram for last-minute inspiration and turn things around. Check out these festive cookie decorations that are sure to get your guests’ bells jingling.

Festive Winter Fairytale

@k_sweetdesigns’s cookies bring out a slightly different aspect of the holiday season: The unique coziness of wrapping oneself up in warm layers while sipping on steaming drinks by the fireplace. Her holiday cake designs include red gloves, a holiday sweater, and a cup of whipped cream-covered hot chocolate. It doesn’t get much better than this.

Enchanted Christmas Trees and Snowflakes

These downright magical cookies by @poshlittledesigns are the epitome of holiday magic. Just look at that sweet sugary icing in soothing pastel colors and let their festive spirit inspire you, get some tree and snowflake-shaped cookie cutters, and create your own version.

The Grinch is Coming to Town

We know, holidays are naturally associated with soulful hugs, cheerful carols, and bellies full of roast chicken. But we mustn’t forget the iconic, misunderstood anti-hero of Christmas: the Grinch! He deserves a place on our cookie decorations list, too. So, if you’re into some less basic cookie ideas, let yourselves be inspired by @kelliebakesandco’s Grinch designs.

If you have a dinner party coming up and looking for new, innovative ways to delight your friends, then what better way to do so than serving up a new, sweet, and unique dessert? Here’s how you can whip up a batch of delectable Italian Cuccidati cookies.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon lemon zest
  • 1 egg
  • Whole milk
  • Unsalted butter
  • 1 cup walnuts
  • Honey
  • 2 tablespoons brandy
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • Orange zest
  • 2 teaspoons orange juice
  • 7 oz dried figs
  • 6 dried dates
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • Fresh lemon juice
  • 1/4 teaspoon grounded nutmeg

Instructions:

  1. Start by making the dough. In a food processor, mix the salt, baking powder, granulated sugar, and lemon zest until blended. Add egg, butter, and milk to the mix until the entire mixture holds together when you squeeze it in your hands.
  2. Place the dough into a large sheet of plastic wrap. Continue to knead the dough until it is a flat disk. Wrap in the plastic and refrigerate for at least one hour.
  3. Now, place the dates, figs, brandy, orange zest, cinnamon, salt, and nutmeg into the food processor. Once a thick paste is formed, add the walnuts and process until there are just a few fine chunks of walnut remaining. Transfer this mixture to a bowl and refrigerate for at least 45 minutes.
  4. Preheat oven to 350°F. Place the dough on the baking tray and the filling on top of it. Fold the dough over the filling so that it completely circles it, thereby forming a log. Cut the log into 8 pieces.
  5. Bake until the dough is golden brown. This typically takes 13 to 17 minutes.
  6. In a small bowl, stir powdered sugar and lemon juice to create a glaze. Once the cookies are out of the oven. pour the glaze over them generously and add sprinkles.

Light, sweet, and buttery, spritz cookies are an ideal treat to delight your family and friends with on Christmas. Here’s how you can create scrumptious, holiday-themed spritz cookies just in time for Christmas this year.

Lay the Foundation

In a small bowl, mix flour with salt and whisk thoroughly. Take out your stand mixer, place cream butter and granulated sugar inside the bowl, and mix well for about four minutes. Add egg and almond extract and beat until mixed in completely.

Ready the Dough

Add the dough to the butter mixture and once mixed divide into three bowls. Add food coloring to each mixture. You could add green to one and red to another while keeping the third plain. Place the dough into a spritz cookie press where you’ll be able to add the desired shape to each cookie.

Bake

Once pressed, place each cookie on a baking tray and bake in the oven until each one is lightly bronzed on the sides. Then, allow the cookies to cool. Your Christmas cookies are now ready to serve.

From New York to Los Angeles, there are over 8,000 independent bakeries in the United States. We have yet to make it to them all, but we can say that we’ve been to a fair few, and, in our experience, many are good, some are great, but only a handful stand out from the crowd.

Those that leave a lasting impression tend to have an exceptional signature product that customers are happy to return for again and again. While, unfortunately, we’re not always able to visit our favorite bakeries in person, we have discovered a few copycat recipes that are just as good as the originals. Read on for a few of our favorites.

Magnolia Bakery Banana Pudding

Magnolia is a world-famous bakery that first opened in New York City in 1996 and now has several locations around the United States. Their banana pudding is a cult favorite that dessert lovers from all over come to enjoy, and it happens to be quite simple to recreate at home. This take by A Bountiful Kitchen is as delicious as the original and contains only six ingredients.

Jacques Torres Chocolate Chip Cookies

Technically, Jacques Torres is more of a chocolate shop than a bakery, though its signature cookies can definitely hold their own in the pastry department. Described by the owner as “a lot of chocolate with a little cookie dough around it,” the New York Times declared them as one of the best chocolate chip cookies, inspiring many food bloggers to create their own versions of the recipe. We love this one by Cookies & Cups.

Levain Bakery Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Chip Cookies

No flavor combination will ever come close to the absolute power couple that is chocolate and peanut butter, and, in our opinion, few bakeries seem to understand this better than Levain. Their dark chocolate peanut butter chip cookies are soft, indulgent, and packed with peanut butter, and if we lived closer to one of their store locations, you’d better believe we’d be buying a box every other day. Fortunately, we have this recipe by Modern Honey to get us through when the craving strikes.

If you’re one of those people who loves a good old fashioned top three list, you’ve come to the right place. That’s because right now we’re about to make one of the most important top three lists ever to be made: a top three list for cookies! Bear in mind that this is somewhat opinionated, with a dash of universal appreciation. So without further ado, here are the three most classic cookies of all time—in no particular order.

Peanut Butter Cookies

We thought we’d kick things off with peanut butter cookies. Peanut butter cookies can be somewhat of a niche type of cookie, because not everyone is a truly peanut butter lover. However, those who love peanut butter swear by these babies every time.

Snickerdoodles

The same point that we made about the peanut butter cookies can also be said for snickerdoodles—except in this case, we’re talking about cinnamon. Snickerdoodles are essentially cinnamon sugar based cookies, and they’re simple in the best way.

Chocolate Chip Cookies

And last, but certainly not least, chocolate chip cookies is probably the most deserving cookie to be on this list. They’re simply iconic in every single way, and they’ll probably be popular for centuries to come.

If you’re looking for a fun and festive way to celebrate a birthday or other special occasion, confetti desserts may be just the thing for you. Confetti is a type of cake with colorful sprinkles baked into the batter, which give it a cheerful appearance reminiscent of, well, confetti! While many people associate confetti with boxed cake mixes, there are plenty of ways to create homemade confetti desserts that are even more delicious and impressive. Grab your sprinkles and read on for some of our go-to recipes.

Confetti Whoopie Pies

The jury’s still out on exactly what a whoopie pie is. Some say it’s a cake, while others maintain it’s more of an oversized cookie. Wherever you stand, you’re sure to enjoy this homemade confetti version. The outside is flavored with vanilla and almond and dotted with plenty of rainbow sprinkles, while the buttercream frosting inside makes it feel just like a slice of birthday cake.

Funfetti Mini Cheesecakes

This recipe by Ginger Snap’s Baking Affairs puts a colorful twist on traditional cheesecake by incorporating rainbow sprinkles into a creamy vanilla batter. It’s easy to whip up and requires less baking time than full-sized cheesecakes, so you can spend less time in the kitchen and more time celebrating.

Baked Funfetti Donuts

These fluffy, moist donuts by Barley & Sage have a cake-like texture and are baked, not fried, making them a healthier alternative to traditional donuts. They’re packed with rainbow sprinkles and topped with a sweet vanilla glaze, which can be left white or colored pink for even an extra-festive appearance.
