What exactly makes avocado a “superfood” like no other? Let’s delve into the amazing health benefits of avocados and discover why they deserve a prominent place in your diet.

It’s the season to be merry, but what you don’t want is a raging hangover the next morning. The best way to help that is by eating the correct food beforehand. It’s important to give your body a chance to recover quickly, rehydrate, and balance your blood sugar levels. Here are four foods to eat before you go out drinking.

Healthy Fats

Fatty foods stay in your stomach for longer which helps slow down the absorption of alcohol in your blood, but that doesn’t mean you should eat a lot of fried foods. Try to eat more healthy fats like salmon and avocados to feel full and ward off the hangover.

Foods That Support the Liver

Adding some turmeric, cinnamon, kale, lemon, and beetroot to your meal is a great way to help support your liver and if you will be drinking alcohol make sure to eat plenty of these.

Slow Releasing Carbohydrates

If you want to keep balanced blood sugar levels while you are drinking, avoid salty snacks as they can dehydrate you, and eat more slow-releasing carbohydrates. Olives, nuts, bread, and chickpea dip are all great for slowing down the absorption of alcohol and easing your hangover the next day.

Fruit

If you do wake up with a slight hangover then fruit is your best friend, it will hydrate you and replace the vitamins you lost. A smoothie with bananas will restore your electrolytes and fruits like watermelon will hydrate you, so throw it all into a blender and enjoy.

Guacamole is a classic and delicious dip that’s perfect for any occasion, from game day to movie night. The best part? It’s incredibly easy to make at home! With just a few simple ingredients, you can whip up a bowl of fresh and flavorful guacamole in no time—and here’s how to do it.

Fresh Avocados

To start, you’ll need ripe avocados. Look for avocados that are slightly soft to the touch, but not mushy. Cut them in half and remove the pit, then scoop the flesh into a mixing bowl.

Adding Some Sides

Next, add some diced tomato, red onion, and jalapeño for a bit of heat. If you’re not a fan of spice, you can skip the jalapeño or use a milder pepper like a poblano.

A Proper Mashing

Mash everything together with a fork or a potato masher until the avocado is creamy but still has some texture. Add a squeeze of fresh lime juice and a pinch of salt, then taste and adjust the seasoning as needed.

Some Extra Flavors

For an extra burst of flavor, you can also add some chopped cilantro or garlic. And if you’re feeling adventurous, try mixing in some diced mango or pineapple for a sweet and tangy twist.

Did you know that eating avocado can also benefit your mental health? Believe it or not, it’s true. Avocado is not just good for your physical health but also for your emotional well-being. Here are some reasons why this is the case.

Folate

Avocado is rich in folate, which is essential for healthy brain function. Folate deficiency has been linked to depression and other mental health issues. By including avocado in your diet, you can help to maintain optimal folate levels and support your brain health.

Healthy Fats

Avocado is also a great source of healthy fats, which are essential for brain function. The brain is made up of about 60% fat, and consuming healthy fats like those found in avocado can help to support cognitive function and improve mood.

Reducing Stress

Another way that avocados can benefit your mental health is by reducing stress levels. Avocado contains magnesium, which is a mineral that can help to relax muscles and reduce stress. It also contains vitamin B6, which helps to regulate mood and reduce anxiety.

Boosting Your Mood

Lastly, avocado is a natural mood booster. It contains tryptophan, an amino acid that is converted to serotonin in the brain. Serotonin is a neurotransmitter that helps to regulate mood, appetite, and sleep.

Who doesn’t love a hack that reduces food waste AND gets you a free house plant? That’s right, you can use the pit of your avocado and grow a beautiful house plant! If you want to do this, follow the steps below.

Rinse and Soak

First, you’re going to rinse off the pit to remove any leftover avocado. Then, place it in a bowl of water and soak it for one hour.

Peel the Pit

Next you’re going to take the pit out of the water. You’ll be able to easily peel the outer layer off. Once the outer layer is peeled, it’s ready for the next step.

Wrap and Hide

Next, you’re going to wrap the pit in a damp paper towel. Roll it up into a ball and place it into a ziplock bag. Place the bag in a warm and dark place. Leave it there for a few weeks until the roots begin to grow.

Place in Water

For this next step, you’re going to place a few toothpicks in the top half of the pit at a downward-sloping angle. Place the pit into a cup of water so the roots are submerged and the top is not in the water.

Transfer to Soil

After a few weeks the roots will really start to grow. That means it’s time to place the roots into soil.

Enjoy Your Plant!

With time, the plant will grow taller and get big leaves. Enjoy your new beautiful house plant!

Avocado toast has become synonymous with millennials, and Margot Robbie is definitely a millennial. Like many of her skinny jean-wearing, side-parted peers, the star of the new Barbie movie likes to start her day with avocado toast. She prefers to pack in the protein, so here is our Margot Robbie-inspired version of the breakfast classic.

 Ingredients:

  • 2 slices bread
  • 1 avocado
  • 4 slices halloumi cheese
  • 2 slices Australian bacon
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 lemon
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Everything Bagel seasoning (optional)

Method:

  1. Mash the avocado with a few squeezes of lemon and spread it on the toasted bread.
  2. Grill the halloumi slices in a hot pan until they are golden brown on both sides.
  3. Fry the bacon or place it in the air fryer until it is extremely crispy.
  4. Fry the eggs sunny-side up or poach them. Be careful not to break the egg and keep the center runny.
  5. Assemble all the ingredients on the toast, top with salt and pepper, and Everything Bagel seasoning if you wish.

Pasta is one of the most comforting dishes you can make. There’s a whole world of options for the sauces you can pair with it, but they often feature either tomatoes or cheese of some kind. So here’s the perfect quick and easy pasta sauce recipe that’s just as healthy as it is delicious.

If you love a creamy pasta sauce, you’re not alone. We love using avocados combined with herbs, spices, and secret hidden veggies to create the perfect dish. It’s packed with all the nutrients of avocado and all the flavor you could wish for—in just a handful of ingredients!

Ingredients:

  • Pasta (your favorite shape)
  • 2 ripe, slightly tender avocados
  • 3-4 cloves of garlic
  • 2 tablespoons Olive or Avocado oil
  • 1 handful of basil leaves
  • 1 lemon
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Pepper
  • 1 pinch of chili flakes, to taste
  • 1 ladle of pasta water

Optional Ingredients:

  • 1 handful of spinach leaves
  • 1 handful kale
  • A sprinkle of Parmesan

Instructions:

  1. Cook your pasta, according to the packaging instructions—to your desired level of tenderness (al dente if you’d prefer). Keep around one cup of pasta water aside for later.
  2. To prepare the sauce, first cut the avocados and peel the garlic.
  3. Next, add all the other ingredients into a clean, dry blender, and blend
  4. Continue on a medium speed, adding the pasta water until the sauce is thinned to the consistency you like.
  5. Give it a try, and add more seasoning or lemon if it needs.
  6. Stir the sauce into the fresh pasta, and top with any additions you’d like. Enjoy!
