Sometimes less is more, and Hershey’s popular candy bar Mounds is a great example of this. The simple combination of sweetened coconut with chocolate has been enjoyed worldwide for almost a century, and it doesn’t look like this treat is going away anytime soon.

The simplicity of Mounds makes this candy bar easy to enjoy, but also easy to make. You will just need four simple ingredients and a bit of time on your hands. And you’ll end up with a tasty dessert that your entire household will love. Here is how to make coconut Mounds chocolate bars at home.

Ingredients:

  • 2 ¼  cup shredded coconut
  • 1 ½ cup coconut milk
  • 4 tablespoons maples syrup
  • 1 cup chopped dark chocolate

Instructions:

  1. Combine the shredded coconut and coconut milk in a bow. Add maple syrup.
  2. Mix the ingredients until the coconut milk and maple syrup turn the coconut into a shapable and sticky substance.
  3. Using your hands, shape the coconut mixture into bars and then line them on a baking sheet before popping them into the freezer for half an hour.
  4. In the meantime, melt the chocolate in a microwave. Leave the microwave on for 30 seconds, stir the chocolate, and turn it on for 15 seconds. Repeat until the chocolate is melted entirely.
  5. Dip the coconut bars into melted chocolate to coat them all the way through. Shake off the excess chocolate and line it on parchment paper.
  6. Pop the homemade Mounds bars in the fridge for 20 minutes to ensure the chocolate settles in. Enjoy.
