Summer is only a week away, and so is the season of barbecues with your friends and family. Skewers are one of the most delicious BBQ staples, but you have to make several important choices with them—starting with making a pick between wooden and metal skewers.

Metal Skewers

The only downside of metal skewers is that they come with a higher price tag, but they’re definitely worth it. If you throw BBQ parties often, they’re a pretty smart investment because they’re reusable and better for the environment.

Metal skewers are usually made from stainless steel, and they’ll last you much longer than wooden ones. They also cook food much faster, and you should always remember to spray them with some cooking oil before grilling food to prevent it from sticking.

Wooden Skewers

Wooden skewers are usually made from bamboo, and their low price tag is pretty much the only good thing about them. They must be thrown away after use, so they’re the only good option for large gatherings when you don’t have enough metal skewers.

It’s extremely important to remember that wooden skewers shouldn’t be just used as they are because the wood might catch fire and scorch your food. Always remember to soak them in cold water for at least half an hour before using them.
