Every day, millions of people around the world consume coffee as a way to increase energy levels and sharpen focus. For some, however, a hot cup of joe is about much more than productivity. There’s a ritualistic aspect to drinking coffee that provides many people with a feeling of joy and comfort. But if you’re sensitive to caffeine, any pleasure coffee brings may quickly be replaced by jitters and anxiety. Fortunately, there are plenty of low and no-caffeine alternatives to coffee that can provide a similar experience without the negative side effects. Here are three of our favorite options.

Herbal Tea

Herbal teas, which are naturally caffeine-free, are made by steeping herbs such as peppermint, chamomile, or ginger in hot water. Many of these teas have calming and soothing properties, making them a great choice for those who want to relax and unwind.

Hot Chocolate

While not entirely caffeine-free, hot chocolate has about one-tenth of the caffeine found in coffee. Cocoa powder, milk, and sugar are combined and heated to create a creamy treat that can be enjoyed any time of day without causing jitters or a crash.

Golden Milk

Golden milk is an Indian drink made from turmeric and ginger and steamed milk. The turmeric gives golden milk its distinctive golden color and provides anti-inflammatory properties while ginger adds a spicy kick.
