See How Artisan Butter is Made in a French Shop

We recently stumbled upon an amazing video that shows the process of making artisan butter and we wanted to share it with you today. Food Insider journalist Claudia Romeo visited a French butter-making shop and met with artisan Jean-Yves Bordier who showed her how he makes artisan French butter from scratch. The process is slow and very satisfying, and we can only imagine how this butter tastes when combined with a fresh loaf of sourdough bread.

“Insider’s Claudia Romeo traveled to Brittany, France to meet with Jean-Yves Bordier, a butter artisan who brought back to France the 19th-century technique of malaxage, using a big wooden wheel to knead the butter. To Jean-Yves, the malaxage is a more romantic way to make butter. At his workshop, everything is churned, kneaded, and shaped by hand,” the video description reads.

How They Do It

The workers do everything by hand and the ingredients are always carefully measured, ensuring premium quality every single time. The butter gets shaped into small pieces, each with the shop’s stamp.

The techniques they use to this day date back to the 19th century and provide authentic flavor and texture that’s been around for a long time. When it comes to butter, it hardly gets better than this!
