Ronzoni Announced That It’s Discontinuing Its Little Stars

TikTok is the spot where food trends are born and live their best life. One of the recipes that has blown up over the last couple months (likely due to the cold weather) is pastina.

The dish consists of tiny pasta that is cooked in chicken broth and mixed with butter, egg, and Parmesan. Not only is it known as Italian comfort food, but nonnas swear that it is the cure to every ailment.

So, you can imagine the global devastation when Ronzoni, a well-known pasta manufacturer, announced that it would be discontinuing its little stars which have become the pastina representative in pretty much every recipe.

“We hear you and greatly appreciate your love for Ronzoni Pastina. After extensive efforts, we regretfully announce that Ronzoni Pastina is being discontinued,” the company wrote on its Instagram account. “This wasn’t a decision we wanted to make. Unfortunately, our long-term supplier informed us that they would no longer be making Ronzoni Pastina as of January 2023… We haven’t given up, but as of today, we can no longer offer Ronzoni Pastina to our customers.”

The news has been so upsetting that some pastina devotees have even started petitions urging Ronzoni to change its mind. Others took to social media to express their disappointment, with one declaring that the brand’s decision is “illegal”.

Ronzoni expects its current supply of pastina to be completely depleted by February, but lovers of the tiny pasta can console themselves with Barilla.
