Roasted Onions are a Great Side Dish to Serve With Meat

Most people stick with basics when it comes to pairing side dishes with meat. It’s baked potatoes, mashed potatoes, and occasional grilled veggies. But if you are tired of the basics, there is a great side dish that pairs awesomely with meat: roasted onions.

Maybe it seems like an unusual pairing at first, but roasted onions work great to balance the flavor of steaks, chicken, and turkey. Also, they will add some sweetness, bringing excitement to every bite.

If you are interested in trying it out, here is how to make some roasted onions.

Ingredients:

  • 4 red onions
  • 4 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
  • 1 spring of thyme
  • Salt and pepper

Instructions:

1. Preheat the oven to 400F.

2. Peel the onions and cut them into quarters.

3. Place onions in a bowl and add olive oil, thyme, and salt and pepper to taste. Toss the onion quarters until they are all covered in oil mix.

4. Line the onion quarters on a baking sheet and pop in the oven. Bake for 12 minutes.

5. Take the onions out, splash them with balsamic vinegar, and then return them to the oven. Bake for 10 to 15 minutes, until they become golden brown.

6. Serve while warm with the meat of your choice.
