What You’ll Need:

  • Raw rice (white or brown)
  • Water
  • Microwave-safe bowl

Rinse the Rice

Measure the desired amount of rice and rinse it thoroughly in cold water until the water runs clear. This removes excess starch and prevents the rice from becoming too sticky.

Water Ratio

For white rice, use a 1:2 ratio of rice to water. For brown rice, go with a 1:2.5 or 1:3 ratio, as it requires more water and longer cooking time.

Microwave-Safe Bowl

Place the rinsed rice in a microwave-safe bowl and add the appropriate amount of water. Cover the bowl with a microwave-safe lid or plastic wrap.

Microwave Time

Depending on how much rice, cook for 14-20 minutes.

Let it Rest

After cooking, let the rice rest in the microwave for about 5 minutes. This helps evenly distribute the moisture and fluff up the grains.

Fluff and Serve

Remove, fluff the rice with a fork, and your microwave-cooked rice is ready to enjoy.

Another hack if you have leftover rice, is to store it in the freezer. When you want to eat it, just pop it in the microwave for 2 minutes and it will be good as new!
