The best thing about smoothies is that you can add pretty much any ingredient to the mix, but it’s important not to go overboard with some of them. Certain ingredients won’t do your smoothie any favors if you don’t use them in moderation and these five fall under that category.

Greek Yogurt

Non-fat Greek yogurt is a great smoothie add-in because it’s packed with protein, probiotics, and other nutrients, but it’s a good idea to stick to half a cup per serving.

Avocados

Avocado can give your smoothies an irresistible creamy texture, but it’s important to keep in mind they’re fat-rich fruit and don’t add more than a quarter of an avocado to your smoothie.

Nut Butters

Adding nut butter to your smoothies is a much better idea than using whole nuts because you’ll be able to blend them properly, but stick to one or two tablespoons per serving.

Sweetened Milk

Sweetened milk is best avoided when it comes to smoothies since it can be replaced with water or unsweetened verities. Fruits will add sweetness to your smoothie, so there’s no need to use this ingredient.

Honey

Honey can also be used as a natural sweetener in your smoothies, but it’s important to keep its high-calorie content in mind and stick to a single tablespoon or less.
