Pinterest recorded a significant surge in searches for all kinds of elaborate cakes. Unusual cakes and art cake ideas are two of the most searched terms that fall under this category, with an emphasis on gravity-defying cakes, bubble cakes, and 3D cakes.
Pinterest’s report claims that this trend will be especially popular among millennials and Gen Z, adding that “people will craft elaborate cakes to express whatever mood they’re in”. Some of the cakes they mention have been on the rise this year, but they’re expected to go mainstream in 2022.
Pinterest also predicts that afternoon tea will become the new happy hour next year. They explained the rise of this trend by claiming that “afternoon tea is more than a meal—it’s a moment, an aesthetic, a pose” and that “people will choose Darjeeling with a friend over drinks after work” in 2022.
The tea party aesthetic and drinking tea pose are two of the most popular trending search terms, but the fun doesn’t stop there. Pinterest users also can’t get enough of butterfly pea tea and high tea food ideas, and they’re constantly looking for inspiration for vintage tea parties.
