If you haven’t had pierogi so far, it is safe to say that you have missed out. These traditional Polish dumplings can be a tasty and filling dish while making them doesn’t require some complicated cooking skills. All you need are some basic ingredients and a will to spend some time in the kitchen. But don’t take our word for it. Try it for yourself using our recipe below.

Ingredients:

Dough

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup lukewarm water
  • salt

Filling

  • 1 ¼ cups cream cheese
  • ½ cups cheese spread
  • 1 tablespoon sour cream
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon chopped chive
  • 1 teaspoon chopped dill
  • salt and black pepper

Instructions:

  1. First, you need to make the dough. Combine the dough ingredients into a bowl, flour, and salt first, then eggs and water, and knead the dough continuously until you get a uniform mass. Make sure you spend at least five minutes kneading the dough. Leave it to rest for half an hour.
  2. In the meantime, make the filling. Simply combine all the ingredients in a bowl, adding salt and pepper to taste and then giving them a strong mix until they are combined.
  3. When the dough got its rest, roll it using a rolling pin to 1/8 inch thickness. Cut the dough into circles using a circular dough cutter or a drinking glass.
  4. Evenly distribute the filling on each dough circle and then fold them over. Seal the edges using a fork.
  5. Take a big pot and fill it with water while adding a pinch of salt. Get the water to boil, and then add dumplings. Let them boil until they start floating on the surface.
  6. Melt some butter in a pan on medium heat and cook the boiled pierogi on each side until they are golden brown.
  7. Let them cool and eat them straight away or dip them in tomato sauce or another dip of your preference.
