Microwaves don’t have to be all about ready meals and reheating leftovers. If you know how to work with your microwave, it can be one of the best kitchen assistants you could hope for. Here are four microwave hacks that will transform your cooking experience to the max.

Peeling Garlic

Do you ever have trouble getting off sticky garlic skin? Well, now you don’t have to. Simply pop your garlic cloves into the microwave on medium power for 30 seconds and the skin will peel right off in one go.

Baked Potatoes

Rather than cooking baked potatoes in the oven for hours, all you have to do is simply pierce them all over and cook them in the microwave on full power for around 15 minutes. You’ll know they’re ready to eat if they slide off of the fork when pierced.

Toasting Nuts

Nuts are actually best toasted in the microwave because they cook more evenly than they do in an oven or on the pan. Simply cook them at 1-minute intervals on full power until they are suited to your tastes.

No More Crying!

You can prevent tears when chopping onions by microwaving them before you start. Heat the onion on medium power for around 45 seconds before starting, and you’ll be good to go.
