Plantains, a common relative to the banana, is a common ingredient used in Latin American and West African cooking. These monster fruits are versatile and can be used in either sweet or savory preparations for a variety of different dishes.
One of our favorite ways to use plantains is as the basis for a healthy and savory chip. It’s super cheap and simple to make at home, so let’s find out how.
Ingredients:
- 2 green plantains
- 1 ½ tablespoons olive oil
- 1 tablespoon sea salt
You might think that this ingredient list is too short, but you truly only need three things to make delicious plantain chips! Here’s how:
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Start off by cutting the plantains into thin 1/4 inch slices. After you’ve done this, place them into a bowl.
- Toss the plantain slices in a bowl with a tablespoon and a half of olive oil until well-coated. If you think the slices need a bit more olive oil, add until you have enough to fully coat them.
- Arrange the plantain slices, coated in olive oil, onto a piece of parchment paper on a baking sheet. Sprinkle with sea salt.
- Place into the preheated oven and bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
That’s it! Wasn’t that easy? These plantain chips can be kept at room temperature and enjoyed for up to a week after making them. Enjoy!
