Croissants are one of the most delightful things that the French ever came up with. Soft, buttery, and downright delicious, they are the perfect accompaniment to a cup of coffee. Most bakeries make an almond version of the flaky treat, but just in case yours does not, there is still a way to achieve the nutty goodness using a plain croissant and a few extra ingredients.
Ingredients:
- 4 store-bought croissants
- ½ cup butter
- ½ cup brown sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 cup almond flour
- ½ teaspoon vanilla
- ¼ teaspoon almond extract
- Pinch of salt
- Slivered almonds
Almond syrup
- ¼ cup hot water
- ¼ cup sugar
- ¼ teaspoon almond extract
Instructions:
- Make the almond syrup by mixing the almond extract, sugar, and water.
- Slice open the croissants and brush with the syrup.
- Combine the butter, brown sugar, egg, almond flour, vanilla, almond extract, and salt to make the almond cream filling. You want the consistency of buttercream.
- Spread the filling across each croissant half, sandwich them together, and then spread some more on the top. Sprinkle slivered almonds.
- Bake at 350F for 20-25 minutes.
