The season of fresh berries is upon us, but the tricky thing about them is that they can go bad and moldy quite fast. If you want to keep your barriers fresh for longer or prepare them for storage in your freezer, these useful tips will help you do it properly.
Vinegar Solution
Vinegar does a great job removing pesky mold and bacteria, and that’s why you should consider giving your berries a diluted vinegar bath. Soak your barriers in vinegar solution which consists of three parts cold water and part white vinegar, before gently rinsing them with cold water.
Patting Them Dry
Once you’ve rinsed your barriers, don’t just leave them be as they are. It’s extremely important to dry them thoroughly because they’ll develop mold pretty quickly if they stay wet. You can line your salad spinner with paper towels and spin them to make the process quicker, but patting them dry with paper towels is also an option.
Proper Storage
Even when stored in your fridge, fresh barriers still require some airflow to stay moisture-free. If the container you’re storing them in doesn’t have holes, leave it partially open, and line its bottom with paper towels to trap excess moisture.
