Part of traveling is the eating, right? Sampling the local cuisine is a great way to learn about a place’s culture, but there are some things to avoid dining on when traveling. If you’re planning on flying, it’s best to pass on these foods.

Salty Foods

French fries are an easy thing to order when out and about. They are tasty, don’t take long to prepare, and are often the cheapest item on the menu. Have you ever had a bad French fry? We didn’t think so. Unfortunately, foods like these, which are high in salt, can leave you dehydrated. Considering that we naturally dehydrate on planes, we suggest not aiding the process.

Carbonated Drinks

Soda tastes awesome, but having it before or onboard a flight will lead to regrets. That’s because air pressure decreases at higher altitudes, resulting in the gas in your stomach expanding and leaving you feeling extremely bloated.

Sushi

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) says it’s best to avoid “raw or undercooked fish, shellfish, or food containing raw or undercooked seafood, such as sashimi, some sushi, and ceviche” before traveling. The last thing you want is food poisoning on your trip.
