Next time you say your morning smoothie is by far the healthiest breakfast option you could have chosen, think again. There are so many ways to unknowingly make our smoothies unhealthy, and here are some of the most common mistakes that are sabotaging a “healthy” smoothie.

Too Much Sugar

Smoothies that are loaded with 10 to 20 teaspoons of sugar are definitely not healthy, and that’s usually the amount of sugar an average restaurant smoothie contains. That’s why it’s best to prepare your own smoothie that won’t cause your blood sugar to skyrocket.

Too Much Fruit

We usually go overboard on fruit when preparing smoothies, because we know fruits are healthy. The truth is that fruit like bananas and mangoes are also high in sugar and can cause blood sugar spikes. So try not to use too much fruit and stick to those that have less sugar like berries.

Not Enough Veggies

The main reason why people love smoothies is because they’re perfect for sneaking more greens into your diet. So try to dial down on fruit and add more kale, arugula and spinach to your smoothie.
