Do you love steamed buns? They’re fluffy and dainty and make a perfect snack. It’s always great to make some from home, but most Western households don’t have the traditional bamboo steamer used to make them. That’s no problem, because there’s other methods that work just as well! Here are a few to get you started.

Tabletop Steamer

If you have a tabletop electric rice steamer, School of Wok recommends using it to steam buns. You can also use a deep pot with a plate inside, elevated over the water in the bottom. Be sure to put a clean cloth over the top of the pot before you place the lid. This will soak up the water that condenses on top to prevent your buns from getting wet.

Sheet Pan

Well Done Cooking shows us how you can use a sheet pan in the oven to steam your buns. Be sure to use a sheet pan that is deep enough to hold water. Place a raised wire rack on top of the sheet pan, pour in some water, and put the buns on top. Then, cover the whole thing in tinfoil and bake in the oven for 10 minutes on the bottom rack.

Deep Skillet

Justin Chapple suggests using a deep skillet with a plate inside to steam food. Ball up some tinfoil as a riser, put the plate with the food on top, and add your water to the bottom. Put on the lid and boil.
