How to Prevent Your Mushrooms from Releasing Too Much Water

Preparing mushrooms is easier said than done because we all have to deal with one common problem: the water seeping out of them during the cooking process. Mushrooms contain a lot of water, and you can’t completely stop them from releasing it, but there are ways to deal with this issue.

No Rinsing

Mushrooms act like sponges when it comes to absorbing liquids, and that’s why washing them is best avoided. Gently scrub them to get rid of the dirt, and only rinse them under the running water if necessary. Patting them dry is also recommended if you insist on washing them.

Smaller Batches

Preparing your mushrooms in smaller batches is also a good way to deal with released liquids. Don’t overcrowd your pan because your mushrooms will only start steaming because they need a little bit of room to do their magic. Add the next batch only after the first one had enough time to brown.

Right Heat

When preparing mushrooms, it’s recommended to start with medium-high or high heat because you’ll make it possible for the water to evaporate this way. You can turn down the heat once the water is gone, but cooking them on low heat the whole time is not the best idea because they’ll just simmer in the liquid this way.
