We’d like to start this piece off by saying that there’s nothing wrong with eating snacks. Heck, there’s nothing wrong with eating snacks that aren’t particularly healthy—some of the time. No, but seriously, there’s an emotionally healthy time and place for us to get our munch on with snacks that aren’t nutritionally healthy. The trick is knowing when those times are, and when we’re abusing the system. Here’s how to do that.

Ask Yourself Why

As you sit there munching on some tasty potato chips, or biting into an ice cream sandwich, ask yourself why you’re eating it. If you’re eating because you’ve had a long day and eaten healthy for most of it, and feel like you’ve earned a little break—then that’s totally fine.

But if you’re eating that box of candy because you just finished eating a different box of candy and wanted to prove to yourself that you have a hot streak in you, then maybe it’s not the best time.

Recognizing The Binge

It’s really all about moderation. Most of the tastiest snacks are designed to be addicting, so you shouldn’t persecute yourself for wanting more of it. But inner strength comes from being able to step back and moderate your intake of these sweets. You got this!
