It can sometimes be tricky, however, to see if your ginger has gone bad. It’s Soft and Mushy

If your ginger has a soft, mushy texture, it’s definitely time to throw it out. Ginger root should be very hard and firm, and if it’s no longer like that, it means it has gone bad. Similarly, the skin should be very smooth and firm. If it has gone wrinkly, it’s also time to throw it out.

It’s Moldy

This is a pretty obvious one, but if it has mold growing on the outside, you should definitely get rid of it. It’s pretty common for that to happen after some time, so make sure to store your ginger properly to avoid mold.

It’s Changing Color

If your ginger is no longer a bright yellow color, it is going bad. As it becomes less yellow, it will also begin losing its flavor.
