Can you believe that Passover is almost here? The Jewish holiday starts on March 27th and ends on April 4th. As many people know, an essential part of the Seder is wine. In fact, the Seder calls for four cups of wine. So what’s the perfect wine for your Seder and how much should you buy?

How Much Should You Buy?

You don’t want to run out of wine, so as a rule of thumb, expect to serve each guest four cups and plan for one bottle to have five servings. Keep in mind that some people won’t drink alcohol and it’s best to have an alternative like grape or other fruit juices available as well.

Red or White?

This varies on your preferences and the food you’re serving, but traditionally, red wine is served. It’s best to have a variety as some people prefer white or rosé.

Should it Be Kosher?

Even if you don’t keep kosher, serve at least one kosher wine for a traditional feel. Not all kosher wine is kosher for Passover, so you’ll have to read the label carefully. For an extra special touch, buy Israeli wines to mark Passover’s celebration of the promise of freedom in Israel.
