For those who aren’t vegan or vegetarian, eating red meat can be quite the treat. There are few foods that are quite as succulent and delicious as a juicy steak that’s been cooked and seasoned just the way you like it. And then, of course, there are hamburgers, kabobs, bacon, deli, and good old-fashioned sausages. The list of tasty meats is long and no one’s complaining—but how often should you really be eating red meat a week?
You Should Definitely Limit Yourself
It doesn’t matter how tasty red meat is—if you don’t limit your intake, it could very much lead to health problems. Experts say that you should limit your red meat intake to three portions a week, which is around 350-500 grams while cooked.
Being Health Conscious
If three portions sounds like a small amount to you, then that should speak volumes regarding how serious the nutrition community takes it. Listen, it’s okay if you surpass this number on the rare occasion. Maybe you had a barbecue extravaganza one weekend. It happens all the time. But if you go all out, be sure that you compensate by eating substantially less meat in the following week or two.
