Sushi is one of the most popular foods in the entire world and for good reason. There are some meals where you’re not in the mood for red meat, chicken, salad, pizza, or pasta. All you really want is some good old-fashioned raw fish wrapped up neatly in sticky rice and topped with some teriyaki. Is that so much to ask? We totally feel you. Sushi is delicious. But can you eat too much of it?

It Can Be Problematic

In short, there are those who believe that you definitely CAN eat too much sushi and your health depends on it. Some health experts claim that eating sushi over six times per week may lead to something called mercury poisoning. Mercury, which is a heavy metal that can cause neurological problems, actually is very present in tuna and other fish. So it’s definitely beneficial not to overdo it with sushi.

But don’t get too scared if you’re someone who eats a lot of sushi. Just relax, and make sure you don’t go overboard. Even though the experts say no more than six times a week, we’d recommend no more than two or three. Eaten in moderation, sushi can be a great thing.
