How Long Can You Store Opened Condiments?

We missed a lot of fun things in 2020, and it’s time to make up for it this summer. Different kinds of events are possible again but our favorite ones still include some form of outdoor cooking. Hosting barbecue nights and grilling food for your friends is a great way to have fun, but you might ask one question: can you still use the condiments from the back of your fridge? Here’s how long you can store condiments after opening them.

Once a bottle is open, you shouldn’t look at the expiration date anymore. The expiration date is only valid for unopened products, and once you start using it, you have a limited time frame before it’s not good anymore. This is different for different condiments.

It’s a good idea to take a few seconds to write down the date when you opened a new bottle, as it’s really difficult to remember this down the road. Once you do that, know that you can keep the following condiments open for about this long in the fridge, except for honey and vinegar that should be kept in the pantry:

  • Bbq sauce – 4 months
  • Ketchup and chili sauce – 6 months
  • Canned cranberry sauce – 1-2 weeks
  • Sauces with cream – 6-12 months
  • Balsamic vinegar – 18 months
  • Jam – 6-12 months
  • Mayonnaise – 2 months
  • Mustard – 1 year
  • Olives – 2 weeks
  • Pesto – 3 days
  • Honey – 2 years
  • Vinegar – 2 years
