Homemade Sauerkraut is So Yummy and Only Has 3 Ingredients

Sauerkraut is an amazing condiment to have around all year round. It’s a probiotic-filled ingredient that is easy to make and very healthy. There are actually only 3 ingredients in it so give it a shot!

Ingredients

  • 1 medium head of cabbage
  • 3 tablespoons of kosher salt
  • 1 tablespoon of caraway seeds

Recipe

  1. Chop the cabbage into quarters and then shred it and put it into a large bowl.
  2. Sprinkle over 1 tablespoon of salt to start and then massage the cabbage with your hands for 5-10 minutes.
  3. Leave the cabbage for 30 minutes and then add in another tablespoon of salt and massage more.
  4. Repeat this step, and then wait for a final thirty minutes and then add in the caraway seeds.
  5. Boil a quart size jar so it’s sterilized and then pour in the cabbage and all the juice. Make sure you press the cabbage down so the liquid is completely covering the cabbage.
  6. Cover the jar with a tight lid, or use a coffee filter or cheesecloth secured with a rubber band.
  7. Keep in a dark place for 2 weeks, opening the lid every day if you’re using a tight lid to burp it.
  8. After 2 weeks, transfer it to the fridge and enjoy!
