Have you tried to write on birthday cakes before and it’s just turned into a mess? Writing on cakes takes some practice, but once you’ve mastered it, you’ll be able to create bakery-style designs onto your homemade cakes. For writing on cakes, gels, buttercream, melted chocolate, and royal icing work best. Here’s how to write on a cake so you can create beautiful desserts for special occasions.
You’ll Need:
- piping bag and top
- icing
- parchment paper
- marker
- toothpick
- frosted cake
Instructions:
- Fit your piping bag with a top and fill it about halfway with icing.
- Cut a piece of parchment paper the same size as your cake. Using a marker, write your message on the paper. To make sure your message is centered, find the middle letter of each line of text and mark that as the center.
- Carefully place the parchment on your cake. With a toothpick, prick the message onto the frosting. Once you’ve removed the parchment, you can connect the dots with your toothpick.
- Before you pipe on your cake, practice to get a flow of the icing.
- When you feel comfortable, trace the guide you’ve created in the frosting. When you come to the end of a line, gently touch the tip to the cake and lift straight up.
- When you finish writing, you can add decorations.
