It’s clear why people like instant coffee. You only need some hot water to make it, and it takes just a few minutes before you have a cup of coffee in your hand. Also, it tastes great, and there are plenty of variations to choose from. However, despite its convenience, instant coffee isn’t quite like “real coffee,” and you might want to drink it less. Here is why.

May Contain Harmful Chemicals

Due to its nature, instant coffee can contain certain harmful chemicals. Studies have shown that instant coffee can lead to exposure to acrylamide. While this chemical is also found in roasted coffee, its level in instant coffee is twice as high. Overexposure to acrylamide can lead to nerve damage in some extreme cases.

Contains Additives

Instant coffee is often boosted with various additives, including sugar and palm oil, to improve its taste. This can spike up your sugar intake and expose you to saturated fats.

Less Caffeine

If you drink coffee for the caffeine kick, then instant coffee definitely isn’t the way to go. Instant coffee can contain 50% less caffeine than regular coffee, and you might need to drink more in order to make up the difference.

Inferior to Regular Coffee

Finally, instant coffee is inferior to regular coffee in various ways. Instant coffee can never match the flavor of regular coffee. Also, you can’t pick out your blends and customize them the way you want.
