Soup probably isn’t high on the list of food you would consider freezing. However, this is something you should definitely consider doing more often.

We all know that making soup requires some time and effort. Also, we always tend to make more of it than we can eat. So why let it go to waste when you can simply freeze it and reheat it the next time you are in the mood for a comforting bowl of soup? Here is how to do it.

How to Properly Freeze Soup

The first step is to let the soup completely cool off. Never try to place a hot soup in a fridge or freezer because it can raise the temperature in the fridge and cause other food to spoil. If you are in a hurry, you can place the pot with soup in a batch of icy water to cool it down more quickly.

Next, pour the soup into Ziploc bags, but make sure not to overfill. Leave some room at the top, push out the excess air, and close the bags. Store them in the fridge separately and then stack them on top of each other once solid. You can also wrap the bags in plastic wrap to avoid freezer burns.

Frozen soup will stay good for up to six months, but to have it at its best, try to eat it within three months.

How to Reheat Frozen Soup

To reheat frozen soup, take a bag out of the freezer and let it thaw in the fridge overnight. Then, heat it in a saucepan or a pot over low temperature while frequently stirring.
