You’ve probably heard about pide, also known as Turkish pizza. This satisfying flatbread is simple yet extremely delicious, consumed either as a meal or a snack. It is also very customizable, as it can be topped with a variety of ingredients like cheese, tomatoes, meat, mushrooms, and more.
If you haven’t had a chance to try pide, don’t worry. You won’t have to go to Turkey because you can easily make it at home. Here’s how.
Ingredients:
For the Dough
- 2 ½ cups flour (all-purpose)
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 teaspoon instant yeast
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup water
For the Toppings
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella
- 1 cup grated cheddar
- 3 cups baby spinach
- 1 white onion
- 1tbs dried oregano
Instructions:
- Combine your dry dough ingredients in a bowl. Then slowly start adding water and olive oil while mixing.
- Continue to mix until the dough is formed. Form it in a ball and knead it for about five minutes or until it gets smooth and elastic.
- Transfer the dough to a bowl and cover it with a damp cloth. Let it rise for an hour.
- Meanwhile, dice the onion and sauté it in a pan at a medium temperature. Add previously cleaned spinach and cook until it wilts.
- Once the dough has risen, divide it into two balls to four balls (depending on the preferred size) and form oval or boat shapes. Transfer to a baking sheet you’ve previously covered with parchment paper and sprayed with cooking spray.
- Spread the spinach and cheese evenly among the pides. Sprinkle with dried oregano.
- Pop into a preheated oven at 450F and bake for 15 to 20 minutes or until the crust is all golden brown.
- After done, let the pides cool off a bit and then slice them into wedges.
- Dig in.
