When it comes to tasty soups, there are a handful that are truly classic. There’s the delightful minestrone, or the ever-so-sweet tomato cabbage. Then there are creamy soups such as cream of broccoli or cream of tomato. You have your iconic chicken soup. And, of course, there’s French onion soup. But we’d be willing to bet you’ve never heard of this variety of French onion before.

Beef Instead of Dairy

When most people think of french onion soup, it usually comes with a little friend called cheese. You can’t really imagine this classic soup without it, because the two go hand in hand like a burger and fries. But there’s actually a version of french onion soup that doesn’t take cheese—but beef instead. This can be chunks of beef, but it works just as well when using beef broth.

A Richer Experience

We’ve got nothing against french onion soup with cheese, but the beef version is absolutely delicious. There’s something about the richness of the beef broth that adds so much extra flavor to the french onion that’s insanely complementary. We’d highly recommend giving this soup a try, because you might find that it’s better than any french onion soup you’ve ever had.
