Just when we thought TikTok couldn’t give us a wilder drink trend than polarizing borgs, the users of this social media platform managed to prove us wrong. Grimace Shake is the latest craze taking TikTok by storm, but what is it all about and should you give it a shot?

The Grimace Shake trend started quite innocently – with McDonald’s introducing a new drink on June 6, to celebrate the birthday of its purple monster character Grimace. They just wanted to pay homage to their iconic mascot, but they weren’t aware of the madness that they were about to unleash upon the world.

Grimace shake took a life of its own on social media after TikTok users started posting hilarious videos that involve this purple, blueberry-flavored soft-serve drink. These videos follow a similar formula and show people pretending to pass out or playing dead after drinking the iconic McDonald’s drink.

We’ve seen countless hilarious and pretty elaborate Grimace shake videos by now, but Austin Frazier was credited for starting this trend, taking inspiration from a similar video involving Burger King’s Spider-Verse Whopper.

“I said ok, then let’s do something similar. Let’s be super excited. Take a drink and the next scene immediately would be me on the ground with all the stuff next to me and some funny music, and that was literally it,” he told CBS News.

Even though the viral videos about Grimace shake took a pretty dark turn, this beverage is safe to drink and this trend only helped it become even more popular.
