Your furry pal is more than just a pet—they’re a lifelong friend. And one thing lifelong friends like to do is split snacks sometimes! If you like to spoil your pup by giving them just a little taste of whatever you’re eating, here are some tips for dog-friendly snacks that you can make for yourself. Outside of these suggestions, make sure to always check that your meal is safe and healthy for your pup before giving them some!

Fresh Produce

Keep in mind, NOT ALL produce is safe for dogs! Be sure to check before you feed them fruit or veggies and to wash it thoroughly before sharing. But in general, just like fruits and veggies have vitamins and minerals for you, they have them for your dog too! So if you’re sitting down to some cut up carrots, melon, mango, celery, or broccoli—it’s okay to give your dog a couple of pieces too.

Chicken and Turkey

A healthy meal for you and your pup is some grilled chicken or turkey. Don’t give them too much, but a few bites will make them happy and are perfectly safe for them to eat. Just make sure the meat isn’t cooked with onions or garlic and that it’s free of bones, which can be dangerous! And try to avoid giving them any skin or fatty bits.

Natural Nut Butters

A well-known and super healthy snack you might enjoy is a nut butter sandwich or smoothie. When you’re preparing that for yourself, giving your dog a nice dollop of nut butter is a-okay! Just be sure it’s natural because preservatives and thickeners in processed peanut butter can be dangerous for your pup.
