We know mashed potatoes are a great side dish, but you don’t want to get bored of them, do you? This is why you might want to try German potato dumplings aka Kartoffelklösse.

These potato dumplings are super easy to cook and go great with all sorts of dishes, from soups and sausages to gravy and meat. Here is how to make them.

Ingredients:

  • 3 pounds potatoes
  • 1 cup flour
  • ½ cup bread crumbs
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon nutmeg

Instructions:

  1. Peel the potatoes and slice them into smaller chunks. Put them in a pot of water and bring to a boil.
  2. Lower the temperature and cook uncovered for about 15 minutes or until they get soft.
  3. Drain the boiled potatoes and turn them to mash. Add flour, bread crumbs, eggs, salt, and nutmeg.
  4. Mix the ingredients and knead until you get a dough-like consistency. Use the dough to form the balls of the preferred size.
  5. Bring water to a boil and lower the dumplings. Boil them for around seven minutes. Make sure not to overcrowd the pot and cook in batches if necessary.
