Funnel cakes are that treat you always want to get in the summertime. Essentially all it is is fried batter, but when you take a bite, it really reminds you of something special and nostalgic. Making them at home is super and will have all your friends and family reminiscing.
Recipe
- Begin by pouring neutral oil into a pot and heating it while you make the batter.
- In a bowl, mix 1 ½ cups of flour, 2 tablespoons of sugar, 1 teaspoon of baking powder, and a pinch of salt.
- In a measuring pitcher, pour in 1 ¼ cups of whatever type of milk you like, 1 egg, 1 teaspoon of vanilla, 2 tablespoons of melted salted butter, and whisk everything together.
- Pour the wet mixture into the dry and stir to form the batter.
- Pour the batter into a squeeze bottle or a medium-sized funnel and use your finger to cover the bottom so the batter doesn’t drip.
- Release the batter into the oil and make it into a circle, but make sure you are always moving around so there are small holes in between the layers.
- Fry each side for 2-3 minutes until golden, and then drain on paper towels.
- Dust with powdered sugar and dig in!
