Fried pickles are such an incredible treat to have, especially when you’re having a cookout. The acid from the pickles perfectly balances the fried element of the pickles so well. Fried pickles are a nice crunchy alternative to things like fries or onion rings, and especially when you’re having a lot of burgers and hot dogs in the summer months, changing up your side dishes is essential. So try these fried pickles and get that crunchy acidic bite on your table!

Ingredients

  • Peanut oil or vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup of all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon of Italian seasoning
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon of garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon of salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper
  • 1/2 cup of water
  • 2 cups of sliced pickles

Recipe

  1. Using a heavy-bottomed pot, pour in 1 1/2 inches worth of oil. Heat on medium-high heat until it comes to about 375 F.
  2. In a shallow bowl, combine the flour, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, salt, and pepper and mix well. Then, add in the water and mix to make a batter.
  3. Take the pickle slices and dip them into the batter. Use a slotted spoon to transfer the pickles into the oil.
  4. Work in batches until the pickles are perfectly golden, about 2 minutes total.
  5. Drain on paper towels and enjoy!
