Coming home after a long day of work to find that you forgot to defrost the chicken breast meant for dinner has to be one of life’s major frustrations. Here you are starving, with a frozen piece of chicken, and very little patience.

Now what?

The good news is, there is a way to thaw that fillet in under 30 minutes before the hanger takes over (you know what we’re talking about).

You want to start with a relatively thin chicken breast that has been deboned and had its skin removed. An inch or less is ideal as this will allow it to defrost quickly. The same method can be used for other cuts of meat as long as it is a width of 1 inch or thinner.

Step #1

Take a ziploc bag and place the chicken pieces inside.

Step #2

Pour hot tap water into a bowl and check the temperature. You are aiming for 140°F.

Step #3

Place the Ziploc bag in the water until it is fully submerged. You want to stir the water every so often. The chicken should take around 30 minutes to thaw out.
