Oatmeal is a great breakfast for any day or every day. It’s full of protein, fiber, and calcium if you make it with milk. It’s also quick and convenient while still allowing you to cook something fresh in the morning. But the taste of oatmeal can get a little repetitive. Here are just a few ways to spice up your morning oatmeal.

Chai Spice

If you like chai lattes, then this is a great flavor to try. It works best if you steep the spices in the milk as it heats up before you add the oatmeal. If you have a chai spice mix, use about a teaspoon and mix it into your milk. Otherwise, you can make your own by adding cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, cloves, cardamom, and ginger. If you’re feeling brave you can also try adding pepper, coriander, or anise.

Peanut Butter Honey

It’s not uncommon to sweeten oatmeal with syrup or brown sugar. One yummy way to do make things more interesting is to mix in peanut butter and honey instead of your usual sweetener. You can also swap out the peanut butter for any other nut butter, sun butter, or tahini—they all pair well with honey. This will also add an extra helping of protein to the meal.

Fruit Cobbler

A fruit cobbler usually involves baking fruit with an oat crisp on top. While your oatmeal isn’t a baked dish, you can replicate the taste of a fruit cobbler by dropping fresh fruit and a bit of sweetener into your oatmeal.
