Even Healthy Foods Require Moderation

While there are countless healthy foods and drinks you can incorporate into your diet, it’s important not to get too carried away with things. Momentum is a very powerful thing, and it works its magic in a handful of mediums, including those that seem to mean well on the surface. So with all that being said, here’s why it’s important to exercise a fair amount of moderation—even with the healthiest of foods.

Variety is Key

The main reason it’s important to moderate all foods you eat, even healthy ones, is because no food or drink has it all. There are many healthy things you can consume, but none of them give your body everything it needs. So if you’re eating or drinking something too much, there’s a chance you’re neglecting something else in the process.

Let’s say you’ve decided to drink a lot more water. Great! Water is about as healthy as it gets. But if you only drink water and nothing else, you may not be getting enough electrolytes through other drinks such as Gatorade, or vitamins from Vitamin Water. Or let’s say you’ve started to incorporate salad into your diet. This, too, is a great move, but make sure you also get your proteins and starches.

These are just examples, but the message rings true for all healthy foods. The main point to hammer home? Don’t get too focused on one, and mix things up from time to time.
