One of the worst parts of trying a new recipe is realizing you’re missing one of the most basic ingredients along the way. Eggs are often one of those ingredients, but there are several substitutes you can use in their place.

Banana

If you’re out of eggs or simply don’t want to use them, one-fourth cup of mashed banana is always an option, as long as you don’t mind eating a dish with a mild banana flavor.

Apple Sauce

You can easily replace one egg with one-fourth cup of applesauce, just make sure to reduce the amount of sugar in your recipe if you’re using a sweetened variety.

Plain Yogurt

You can also use the same amount of plain yogurt if you’re running out of eggs, but keep in mind that flavored yogurts can alter the taste of the final product.

Vinegar + Baking Soda

Mixing one teaspoon of baking soda with one tablespoon of vinegar is an effective way to replace the eggs in your recipe, especially if you’re making something that’s supposed to be light and fluffy.
