When you first turn vegetarian, it is definitely a lifestyle change. Luckily, there are many products and resources to help guide you on your new journey. However, some of what is out there actually aren’t good for you even if it is vegetarian. Read these tips to avoid making unhealthy decisions as a new vegetarian.

Pizza and Pasta

Many times, you can get pizza and pasta and it will be without meat, so technically vegetarian. However, if your diet only consists of cheese and carbs without any other protein or nutrient sources, you aren’t helping your body. Instead, try flatbreads loaded with veggies to get the best of both worlds.

Soy Products

There are tons of fake meat products available at most supermarkets. Although they don’t have meat in them, companies substitute instead soy, which can be dangerous to your help. Too much soy can elevate estrogen levels, which can become very unhealthy. Not only fake meat has this effect but also tofu which is pure soy. Instead, look for fermented soy which will not raise estrogen levels, like miso and tempeh.

Fried Foods

Foods like French fries and onion rings are vegetarian, but full of fat since they’ve been fried. Instead, make roasted potatoes which minimize your oil intake but keeps the flavor of the potato!
