Okay, we totally understand why the ease of just throwing a bag of popcorn into the microwave has become the norm for popcorn lovers. There are countless flavors, like movie theater butter and kettle corn. This all sounds great until you realize how unhealthy these artificial flavorings are! There have been a bunch of studies that show that microwavable popcorn has a negative effect on your health.

With that being said, it might be time to start popping your own popcorn–and luckily it’s easy and delicious! Popping your own popcorn takes just minutes, and the best part is that you know exactly what you’re eating (no chemicals or artificial flavoring involved!). Here is everything you need to make your own popcorn from home!

Ingredients:

  • ¼ cup popcorn kernels
  • 4 tablespoons olive oil
  • Sea salt (to taste)

Instructions:

  1. Heat olive oil over high heat in a large pot that has a lid.
  2. Once the oil is hot, add your kernels. Cover the pot but leave the lid open a bit to allow some air flow. Be sure to keep the opening small though, so that your popcorn doesn’t fly through!
  3. Listen as the popcorn begins to pop. Once it stops popping, immediately remove from heat to prevent burning.
  4. Add whatever flavoring you prefer (butter, sea salt, caramel, etc) and mix well.
  5. Enjoy your freshly popped popcorn!
