Croque Madame Is The Better Sandwich

A croque-madame is a French sandwich that’s a cross between a ham sandwich and a grilled cheese topped with a lucious bechamel sauce and a fried egg. It’s over 100 years old and is just as delicious as it was when it was created! Try this savory and satisfying sandwich and you’ll never go back to regular sandwiches again.

The main ingredients for this sandwich is some good thick white bread, butter, and cheese. The extra component of the sandwich is the bechamel sauce, which goes all over the top.

  1. Cut the bread into thick slices.
  2. Slather on some Dijon mustard and place down thick slices of ham and a sprinkling of whatever cheese you like.
  3. Fry on both sides until golden brown.
  4. Meanwhile, make the bechamel sauce. First, warm up some milk in the microwave or on the stove top. Then, melt some butter over medium high heat. Once it’s started to bubble, add in flour and whisk quickly for 30 seconds. Finally, add in the warm milk and stir until completely smooth.
  5. When the bechamel sauce is done, fry an egg.
  6. Cover the sandwich in the bechamel sauce and finally place the egg on top.
