Cookbook Author Demonstrates How to Make Layered Smoothies

We’ve all seen those amazingly-looking layered smoothies on social media. Two or three smoothies of different colors sitting on top of each other in the same glass without mixing is really mesmerizing. And most of us have tried to make them at home, but unsuccessfully.

The biggest problem with layered smoothies is that the smoothie layers won’t stay on top of each other. They always seem to mix, robbing us of that satisfying layered effect and giving us just a color swirl. Luckily, there is a solution to this.

How to Make Layered Smoothies

The New York Times food columnist and cookbook author Melissa Clark recently shared a recipe for layered coconut -mango, and blueberry smoothie on her Instagram and revealed the secret for making layers in the process.

In the video Clark posted, she is seen filling half of the glass with the coconut-mango smoothie. She then holds a spoon face-down on top of the glass and pours the blueberry smoothie over it. This way, the second layer gets evenly distributed and manages to settle in without breaking the surface of the first layer.

This nifty little trick works with two-layer smoothies but will probably also work with three or even more layers. It’s definitely worth trying out, so check out the visual instructions in the video below.
