Celebrate American Independence With These 4th of July Treats

Summer will officially be here in just a matter of weeks, and with it, plenty of cookouts. We’re especially looking forward to the 4th of July, a holiday that tends to elicit the biggest barbecues of the season.

With sparklers, fireworks, and everything red, white, and blue, 4th of July cookouts bring the opportunity to celebrate American independence as we enjoy some great food alongside friends and family. Our favorite way to contribute to the festivities is with colorful desserts, because what says “Happy Birthday, America!” more than a cookie covered in red, white, and blue sprinkles? Read on for some of our favorite Independence Day treats.

Bakery Style Chocolate Chip Cookies

This festive spin on a classic chocolate chip cookie recipe by Tessa from Handle the Heat replaces semisweet chocolate chips with red, white, and blue M&M’S. Copious amounts of butter and brown sugar make for a gooey, bakery-style cookie that guests of all ages are sure to love. For even more flavor and fun, try using patriotic peanut butter M&M’S.

Red, White, and Blue Sandwich Cookies

We promised sprinkles, and we never go back on a promise. These sandwich cookies by Jessie Bakes Treats are an easy and delicious way to show your spirit at any cookout or picnic. Two vanilla cookies packed with red, white, and blue sprinkles are sandwiched around an indulgent layer of sweet American buttercream.

The Best Rice Krispie Treats

Once a year, Kellogg’s releases a limited-edition red, white, and blue version of its classic puffed rice cereal. While you can certainly enjoy a bowl of patriotic Rice Krispies as you would any other breakfast grain, we find incorporating them into 4th of July Rice Krispie Treats to be a much better use. We love this super marshmallowy version by Jennifer from Beyond the Butter.
