Cascara is the Latest Hit Coffee Drink, But It’s Not Actually Coffee!

There are plenty of “cool” beverages on the market right now and some can be downright confusing. If you’re feeling overwhelmed by the selection, we totally get you. After all, who could stay on top of everything that we have today: kombucha, sparkling water, cold brew, yerba mate, alkaline water, matcha, etc.? We don’t blame you if you stick to plain coffee or beer most of the time.

One of the new hit drinks is cascara, also known as coffee cherry tea. So what is it, coffee or tea? It’s a herbal tea made from the dried skins and berries of the coffee fruit that are separated after the coffee beans have been collected.

The beverage is more similar to tea than coffee, with a flavor that resembles hibiscus, mango, cherry, and rosehip. It contains caffeine, but not as much as coffee does. Have you tried this odd coffee-tea combo? What do you think about it?
