While carbs are not actually as unhealthy as many people make them out to be, a lot of us tend to eat way too much of them, and we can potentially be healthier or consume fewer calories by replacing our carbs with other things. If that’s something you’re interested in, here’s a guide as to how to do it.

Pasta

Pasta is one of the most delicious dishes out there, but you can actually enjoy it just as much without the noodles themselves because the flavor is really all in the sauce. Instead of regular wheat noodles, consider one of the following substitutes:

  • Zucchini noodles
  • Spaghetti squash
  • Shirataki noodles
  • Low-carb noodles

Rice

An absolute staple food all around the world, rice is a great way to round out your meal and feel more full. If you don’t want the high carb count, you may prefer going with an alternative like:

  • Cauliflower rice
  • Parsnip rice
  • Chickpea rice
  • Shirataki rice

Bread

Let’s be honest, bread is a staple food that’s hard to imagine going without. While there might not be a substitute for plain bread with butter, if you’re looking for something to make sandwiches with, you might want to consider:

  • Ezekiel bread
  • Cloud bread
  • Lettuce leaves
