Frying food in a pan is one of those experiences which unites humans all over the world. It’s something we’ve been doing for a very long time, and we’re pretty darn good at it. However, one of the less fun issues we face after frying, whether you make a tasty omelette or a steaming batch of pancakes, is cleaning up the mess afterward.

Washing a pan with soap and water is problematic. It can remove the non-stick elements which make our cooking so convenient. It also removes all the life and goodness from the pan. In fact, some chefs never wash their pans, because they want to retain that personality and flavor. With all this said, here’s our pro tip for cleaning your pan.

Salty and Simple

Simply pour a nice amount of salt into your dirty pan. The salt sticks to grease and has edges sharp enough to scrape off egg remnants, while it isn’t so sharp as to damage the pan. The thicker the salt, the better, but you’re able to use any kind of salt. Take a paper towel, rub in the salt, use circular motions, and keep going until it’s clean. Sometimes, when the pan is especially greasy, or if you haven’t poured enough salt, you’ll need to use some more before it’s completely clean. Once your pan is nice and shiny, you’re all done!
