Herbs and spices are the most important ingredients in your kitchen that can add flavor to dishes and transform your cooking. But learning how to season food properly takes some time and experience. Check out a few common mistakes to avoid when seasoning food.

Not Tasting The Dishes

The most important thing when seasoning food is to taste your dishes while cooking. Even if it sounds obvious, most people make the mistake of adding spices without actually tasting the food.

Using Ground Spices

Using ground spices is not actually a mistake as long as they’re fresh, but whole spices can add more aroma and flavor to food and they will stay fresh longer.

Using Old Spices

Even though they don’t have an expiration date, spices will lose their flavor and aroma after a few months. Seasoning food with old spices won’t actually make you sick, but since they’re not fresh chances are that your food will taste bland.

Not Using Lemons

Sometimes using just one simple ingredient can transform your meals, and in many cases that ingredient is lemon. Lemon juice can be very useful for preparing fish, meat, and veggies and it can make your food more juicy and flavorful.
